The UK automotive industry is a vital part of the UK economy worth more than £82 billion turnover and adding £18.6 billion value to the UK economy. Employing in excess of 168,000 directly in manufacturing and in excess of 823,000 across the wider automotive industry.
Automotive engineering is generally at the forefront of development. The concept of a driverless vehicle is now a reality and it is only public confidence and an adequate infrastructure that prevents it being introduced within the public domain. Although an exciting topic, globally it is a highly competitive industry where engineers require a sound understanding of engineering principles.
This advanced course is designed to satisfy the needs of graduate mechanical engineers, or graduates with an appropriate scientific background, who wish to redirect their careers towards automotive engineering and automotive system design. In doing so we focus engineering science competence towards its application within the automotive arena and provide detailed knowledge of the operational needs of a land vehicle.

Previous graduates from courses in this subject area have gone on to work in a variety of roles such as program quality engineer, mechanical design engineer, research engineer and vehicle durability engineer in organisations including Faurecia, Applied Photonics Ltd, Jaguar Land Rover and Millbrook Proving Ground Ltd.**
