This three-year Virtual and Augmented Reality degree programme is one of the first of its kind in the UK.

The course has is part of Screen Yorkshire’s Connected Campus initiative and is carefully structured to equip students with the most up-to-date knowledge, skills and experience required by industry.

Guided by knowledgeable industry active staff such as Carlton Reeve (a consultant for commercial AR games) and Peter Chapman (who runs his own digital agency), you’ll learn advanced techniques such as:

• 3D modelling
• motion capture
• digital compositing
• programming
• games design and app development

As a student on the course, you’ll have regular access to our high-tech facilities and equipment to enable you to put your learning into practice and gain the vocational experience needed to stand out in the job market.

Your learning and practice will culminate with a bespoke studio project during your final year, where you will be able to work with other disciplines on a large-scale piece of work where you can showcase the skills you’ve developed through the course.

On the course, You’ll benefit from plenty of opportunities to expand your knowledge and grow your passion. This includes 48-hour film and game jams, access to technical equipment for personal projects, and workshops delivered by award-winning industry professionals such as James Butler (Animator, Peppa Pig) and Iki Ikram (VFX Artist, Last of Us, Uncharted).  

The department has a close relationship with the resident Working Academy placement agency, which provides students and graduates with the opportunity to work on collaborative digital projects commissioned through public sector organisations.

VR (Virtual Reality) and AR (Augmented Reality) is becoming increasingly important and visible in the entertainment industries; particularly film and games, real world spaces and apps. It is also set to play an important role in areas such as training (in medical education, for example) and sustainable development.

As a graduate you'll be ideally placed to enter a thriving industry, and will be part of the next wave of creative, and technical fusion. As a technically skilled artist in this space, you'll be future proof and able to capitalise on a wide range of opportunities.
