UK93 BA (Hons) Entrepreneurship Northumbria University

  • THÔNG TIN CHUNG

The course combines study of entrepreneurial theory with practical learning and problem-solving. You can pursue a pathway with optional research-based modules which explore different aspects of entrepreneurship, or you can follow a business start-up route and create your own company. The aim is to provide you with flexibility and choice.

Following a common first year focusing on building the foundations for entrepreneurship, the second year provides for your choice of pathway, with the student enterprise route giving an optional route to apply your new leadership and management knowledge to establishing and managing your own business. If you prefer a more conventional approach, you can alternatively choose a route with specialist modules. Between your second and final year, you’re encouraged to extend your horizons with an optional year out. This could be a work placement in an established business or further development of your own start-up (depending on your pathway), or the chance to gain international experience studying abroad.

The course is covered by the prestigious Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) accreditation for Newcastle Business School. What’s more, when you study at Northumbria you’ll be part of a leading, business-focused university. We rank 4th in the sector nationally and top in the North East for further study, sustained employment or both for Business and Admin Studies graduates five years after graduation. (Longitudinal Education Outcomes (LEO) 2017)

Most importantly of all, our students value the hands-on, practical ethos of our courses – 100% said they had opportunities to apply what they had learnt (National Student Survey, 2018).

Making your career happen is at the heart of our approach – with every module designed to reinforce the transferable skills you’ll need in the workplace. We’ve also introduced dedicated modules on career-development skills: Professional Career Development and Entrepreneurial Management.

Beyond the classroom, you’ll have opportunities to develop further career edge through practical experience and wider learning. In your second year, you can spend a semester studying abroad, or take an extra year before your final year studying elsewhere in the EU, or further afield such as the USA, Australia or China. There’s also our Business Clinic, offering you the chance to work with real clients to help solve their business challenges.

Many of our entrepreneurship graduates have gone on to put their degree into practice by founding their own successful businesses – including premium tea and tea ware brand Y-Tea, award-winning themed tour operator Lundgren Tours and film production company Filmit UK.

The entrepreneurial skills and acumen you’ll gain as part of the course aren’t simply beneficial for starting a business, they’re also highly sought after by employers – particularly for roles in consultancy, sales and marketing. So once you complete your studies, you’ll be in an excellent position to apply for graduate training schemes and graduate roles, or begin building your own business.

Should you wish to push your knowledge even further, the course also prepares you for postgraduate study – for example, on our MSc in Entrepreneurship and Innovation Management.
