Digital Media informs the way we create, play, communicate and interact with technology. It is also essential to a wide range of industries and creative subjects, including web and app design, XR, entertainment technologies, social media, online marketing and data visualisation.
Based within Greater Manchester, you’ll be studying in one of the fastest-growing creative technology centres in the UK. At our state-of-the-art campus in Salford’s MediaCityUK, you’ll be situated alongside the BBC, Channel 4 and a host of successful media companies.
The first year of this Digital Media degree course will guide you into developing your understanding of digital design, user experience and digital storytelling. In the second year, you’ll hone your interactive design and motion graphics skills while exploring emergent immersive technologies such as VR and AR. This year you’ll also engage with industry partners through live briefs. As your Digital Media BA progresses, you’ll develop professional expertise by engaging in individual and collaborative assignments with our industry links. Recent student projects include the design of VR environments for Barclays Bank and Bentley and interactive applications for JD Sports, Airbus and Subaru.
Taught by creative technology specialists and leading researchers within the field, you’ll have access to a wide range of industry-standard technologies, including VR headsets, green screen studios, motion capture suits and 3D printing technology. You’ll have access to our exclusive installations at the digital production lab and the opportunities brought by our world-renowned MediaCityUK Campus.
Supported in gaining the necessary skills to contribute to the creative technology industries, you’ll be ready to be part of new and exciting technological advances. As a Digital Media student, you’ll be best placed to pioneer the implementation of new digital tools and production pipelines into various creative industries. Our students have gone on to work with recognized brands related to the world of global technology, such as the BBC and digital design studios, including Epigram, Persona and Stein.
Through this programme, you’ll gain creative, technical and entrepreneurial skills that will enable you to secure various job roles, whether in strategy, design or the development of digital experiences bringing creative digital solutions to real-world problems.
The creative industry is competitive, but you’ll be graduating with the skills and personal determination you need to succeed. And as a growing field propelled by the advancement of new technologies and online media, there’s plenty of diverse career potential for digital media graduates. Many of our graduates have gone on to establish successful careers as UX and UI designers, software design engineers and mobile developers, as well as graphic designers, web developers and digital content editors. So, the possibilities really are endless.
