UK80 PGCE Secondary French with QTS Manchester Metropolitan University
Our one-year Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) prepares you to teach across the secondary school French curriculum for the 11-16 age range.
At Manchester Met, you’ll mainly study with your PGCE French group. We'll teach you in your target language to provide an opportunity for you to practise and develop your language.
You’ll consider how to plan lessons, reflect on your planning, learn how research can develop your teaching practice, and look at ways to develop your teacher persona.
You won’t only learn teaching methods with us on campus though, you’ll spend at least 120 days on placements in a variety of schools, gradually increasing your involvement to become an expert practitioner.
On your placements, you’ll normally have the opportunity to teach your main language and your second language (subject to your level in your second language, and in full discussion with yourself). We also welcome speakers of heritage / other languages, and we do our utmost to enable speakers of additional languages to have an opportunity to teach these on placement too. Past students have contributed to Urdu, Italian, Japanese and Somali teaching – and we are very keen to keep extending the range of languages.
Most of our graduates go on to work as art and design teachers in secondary schools.
The PGCE programme provides you with 60 masters' level credits when you graduate. You could put these towards a masters degree to help you develop your career in the field of education including our new MTeach masters specifically designed for Early Career Teachers (ECTs).
