UK80 BA (Hons) Business Psychology Manchester Metropolitan University
Interested in being an influencer in a major corporation? Or mentoring people to overcome challenging situations at work? Or perhaps you want to coach leaders of charities and public organisations?
Business psychology is an emerging topic in the working world. Performance, excellence, talent management, mental health – they’re not just buzzwords, they’re driving a new approach to doing business.
This unique course lets you combine your interests in human behaviour and business operations. You don’t need any psychology or business knowledge when you join us – just curiosity and a willingness to learn. We’ll go over everything from scratch, introducing you to the business environment, and helping you develop the academic and professional skills you’ll need to succeed.
A fresh course for an emerging field
Cognitive psychology. Social psychology. Decision making. Fairness at work. The course covers a huge range of topics across business and psychology.
But despite the broad scope, you’ll find a very rounded approach to the subject. We’ve designed the curriculum to train you for work as a business psychologist – it’s not a joint business and psychology degree run by two different departments. Learn from our experts and discover how you can fit in to this exciting field.
Put your career first
We help you learn the practical skills you’ll need for the future. For example, in the Psychology in Practice module you’ll learn how to manage client relationships, identify problems and come up with solutions. It’s a great way to test the waters of a consultancy career.
In your final year you’ll design your own project around a challenge. Collect and analyse data and use your creativity to solve the issue – just like you would in the working world.
Placement options
Our BA (Hons) Business Psychology degree offers the chance to spend a year getting a taste of professional life. It not only gives you the opportunity to develop your core skills and learn about how business really operates in your industry, but also shows employers that you’re ready to get to work.
The business school placement team is ready to help. They offer a wide range of services, including employer presentations, advice and placement fairs. But it’s also up to you – the more proactive you are about applying for placement opportunities, the better.
Business psychology is an emerging field and the opportunities for an exciting career will continue to grow. Many organisations have already seen the value of having a business psychologist on board – the NHS and Ministry of Justice have entire occupational psychology departments.
Business psychologists are helping Lego understand the value of play in the workplace. They’re helping NASA train astronauts for the stress of space missions. And they’re helping the gaming industry make video games more exciting and challenging.
You could look for work in-house with an organisation (especially in the public sector), or you could become a consultant working with lots of different businesses. Many business psychologists also find writing work discussing psychological issues for magazines and blogs.
