UK75 MGeol Geology with Integrated Master's Keele University
This course adds an additional master’s level year to our three-year Single Honours Geology degree programme, during which there is a strong emphasis on developing the vocational and research skills you will need to work in industry or advance in academia. You will have the opportunity to develop your breadth and depth of knowledge, as well as extending your research and data handling skills.
The focus of the final year is a major research project on a topic of your choice. The master’s level field course simulates a real world geological industry scenario to help develop your employability skills.
The course aims to develop your transferable skills, including communication, decision-making and problem-solving skills, and the ability to research, evaluate and synthesise information from diverse sources. This may also include subject specific-skills like the ability to manipulate, analyse and present geospatial data using industry standard GIS and drawing software. You might choose to work in geological, geophysical or environmental consultancy, in construction, mining, in the energy sector, planning or insurance.
Our course is accredited by the Geological Society of London.
Geology graduates are likely to be high in demand as modern society requires increasing amounts of energy, raw materials and other resources such as water, the vast majority of which are discovered by geoscientists, and this is likely to continue into the future.
Geologists are also needed for civil engineering in designing foundations and tunnels and in environmental projects such as carbon dioxide sequestration. You could go on to work in the mining, oil and gas, hydrogeology or geotechnical sectors.
