As well as Geography, the PGCE Secondary award, with QTS, is also available in Art and Design, Biology (Sciences), Computing, English, Geography, History, Mathematics and Physical Education.
You will be supported to develop your own geographical skills and knowledge alongside teaching strategies, enabling you to become an excellent practitioner. Your subject knowledge workshops will support you to confidently develop teaching strategies covering all aspects of Geography. For example ArcGIS training run by Esri UK , landforms and processes, place and identity, globalisation and development, weather and climate, fieldwork and the changing geography curriculum and current issues relating to teaching the subject.
Emphasis is placed on strategies such as learning through enquiry and fieldwork, to ensure you are well prepared to successfully teach and motivate pupils in the contemporary classroom.
You’ll be supported by a range of experienced professionals, both during school placements and by academic staff at the university. The programme aims to help you become an engaging and effective teacher within the 11–16 age range, and provides the input and opportunities that could enable you to teach post-16. Successfully completing this PGCE course will enable you to teach at Secondary age, as well as Primary and A Level.
Graduates from this course can go on to work in secondary school teaching.
