AU32 Bachelor of Mathematics (Industrial and Applied Mathematics) University of South Australia

  • THÔNG TIN CHUNG

This degree creates work-ready professionals with sound knowledge in applied mathematics and strong multi-disciplinary skills.

Mathematics can open doors to a wide range of careers as new and improved solutions are sought to societal challenges. Employers are increasingly looking to quantify and understand data. You will develop the analytical and problem-solving skills to play a valuable role in the growth of society.

You will develop sound knowledge in applied mathematics. Because this degree is diverse and flexible, you’ll also explore the relationship and application of mathematics to other areas such as physics, engineering, information technology and biology.

Flexible study opportunities are available, you can study full-time or part-time.

    What you'll learn

In first year you’ll study core subjects in mathematics and IT. You will focus on building your mathematical and programming skills with courses that include calculus, statistical methods, fundamentals of programming, and databases.

You will study multi-disciplinary areas such as mathematical modelling, data collection and analysis, numerical analysis, and the implementation of computer-driven solutions. You can also choose to study a minor in Information Technology.

In your final year you will take part in the Maths Clinic program. In Maths Clinic a team of students, supported by a faculty supervisor, works on a problem in close consultation with an industry partner. This will strengthen your abilities in research, analysis, and interpretation of data.

  • CƠ HỘI NGHỀ NGHIỆP

With qualifications in Industrial and Applied Mathematics, your multi-disciplinary skills will position you for roles in sectors such as defence, government and finance.

    Careers to consider:

    • biostatistician: using or applying mathematics and statistics to various categories in biology; designing biological experiments primarily in the field of agriculture and medicine; collecting, dissecting, and summarising data and releasing information based on the findings of that data
    • big data researcher: extracting data from relational databases; manipulating and exploring data using quantitative, statistical and visualisation tools; selecting appropriate modelling techniques so predictive models are developed using rigorous statistical processes
    • business data analyst: working with stakeholders, analysts and senior management to understand business strategy and the questions that need to be asked; identifying research needs; designing experiments and making recommendations based on results; driving complex analytics projects to support the business
    • information security analyst: reporting and producing recommendations to prevent security incidents; security control monitoring; implementing new security technology, methods and techniques; championing security best practice; reviewing systems for security risks and compliance issues
