AU31 Bachelor of Interior Design (Residential) Torrens University Australia (Melbourne campus)
In the Bachelor of Interior Design: Residential you will engage with the many and diverse theoretical and practical elements of designing residential interiors. You’ll come to understand the impact the selection of materials, lighting, joinery and furniture can have on your design. You’ll explore the use of new technology in interiors, such as artificial intelligence robotics and interactive audio-visual systems. As a future-ready interior designer, you’ll learn how environmentally sustainable practices are also an important part of your tool kit. During this course you’ll explore the small but important details of interior design, such as fittings and fabrics, and also respond to major contemporary issues that have an impact on residential interior-design thinking. These include our ageing population, homelessness, evolving gender roles and definitions of family. From a practical point of view, you will make residential environments a reality through documentation, contract management, professional design practice and cross-disciplinary interaction. And you’ll have the opportunity to apply theory to practice by creating a range of residential interior-design solutions for real clients. As well, you can apply for an internship with one of our leading partners as part of your study. You will graduate with the skills and social awareness that will be invaluable as you start your career in one of many exciting and challenging avenues of interior design.
