AU17 Bachelor of Business (Sport Management) La Trobe University (Victoria campus)
If you're a sport enthusiast interested in what happens behind-the-scenes - how sport is managed, presented and promoted - this three-year degree gives you that insight. You'll explore the business of sport-specific operations through theory and work experience in the sports industry.
In first year, you'll develop knowledge of business principles by studying economics, accounting and finance, sport management and sport marketing. This will give you an understanding of the business structures, business culture and performance management that underpin the sporting industry.
In second year, you'll investigate the social and economic policies of sport through business law, sport policy, sport media and human resources management studies.
In third year, you'll complete a 200-hour work placement where you'll analyse current practices, apply sport management theory, and develop industry connections. Along with your placement, you'll undertake workshops that develop your employability, as well as core subjects in volunteer management, sport governance and sport development.
You'll have the flexibility of eight elective choices from any subject area and the opportunity to take part in overseas business studies with our partner universities across the globe. These include University of Stirling (Scotland), University of Bayreuth (Germany), University of Windsor (Canada) and University of Oregon (USA).
Our unique industry Professors of Practice work within this course to improve course curriculum, student learning experience, and engage with industry and business.
Our students have gone on to become sporting club team managers and account managers. You may also find positions in health and fitness centres, marketing and sponsorship agencies, local government and sport boards, venue management or even athlete management.
