    In this specialisation you’ll use advanced computer software to design treatment for cancer patients. Then you’ll engage advanced technologies to implement treatment plans.     Equipped for success

    Equipment used by medical radiation scientists has become increasingly sophisticated over the past decade and a detailed knowledge of equipment function, operation and computer interfacing is required. With an emphasis on the techniques and equipment used in diagnostic radiography, nuclear medicine and radiation therapy, this degree will provide you with the skills and knowledge you need for a rewarding and fulfilling career.   You’ll learn across a wide range of subject areas,  including general radiography, screening, computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), ultrasound, single photon emission computed tomography (SPECT), positron emission tomography (PET), hybrid systems (SPECT/CT, PET/CT, PET/MRI), simulation and planning systems, linear accelerators, and state of the art computer / software systems.

    Learning facilities

    To ensure you’re experienced in using the equipment and techniques found in the workplace, our facilities include CR units, a clinical ultrasound machine, Philips PRISM 1000 Gamma camera and multiple Odyssey VP/FX/LX computers, Vita medical technegas ventilation equipment, GE 400AC SPECT Gamma Camera and camstar computer, fully equipped radiopharmacy laboratory and ADAC – Sun Sparc Ultra – 10 interfaced computer system for image analysis, VERTUAL 3D radiation therapy simulation software, and Elekta Monaco planning software for 3D radiation therapy planning.

    EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY

    Radiation therapist in public hospitals or private radiation oncology practices

    Specialise in areas such as tomotherapy and IMRT.

    Register with the Medical Radiation Practice Board of Australia.

    PROFESSIONAL RECOGNITION

    Accredited with ongoing conditions set by the Medical Radiation Practice Accreditation Committee. On graduation CSU graduates are able to be registered with AHPRA.

    Graduates of the medical imaging and radiation therapy specialisations are also eligible to become members of the Australian Society of Medical Imaging and Radiation Therapy (ASMIRT).

    Graduates of the nuclear medicine specialisation are eligible for membership of the Australian and New Zealand Society of Nuclear Medicine (ANZSNM).

    The MRPBA has advised the University that the revised course should be submitted for review by the board in mid 2021, after students have completed the first year of the revised program.
