The ANU School of Music’s Master of Music (Advanced) is designed to nurture outstanding musical artistry through offering a diversity of musical experiences in an environment that encourages excellence, passion and entrepreneurship. We believe that discovery lies at the heart of both creativity and self expression.
Enrolling in a Master of Music (Advanced) gives you the opportunity to explore the concepts and contexts of music guided by world-class academic staff delivering lectures, tutorials, one-to-one tuition, ensembles, master classes, technical workshops and musical activities in the community.
Your learning experiences are not just confined to the classroom or recital hall: you also have the opportunity to use our million dollar recording studio outfitted with the most advanced array of microphones, recording hardware and software as well as the legendary 48 channel Neve Genesys console which is at the heart of the studio.
Internships are available with an array of professional performance companies, recording studios, production houses, and community arts organizations.
The Master of Music (Advanced) offers two streams to match your passions: Music Performance and Music Composition.
The Master of Music (Advanced) will give you both the tools and opportunities to advance your career in the traditional and emerging creative industries as a performer, composer, researcher, or entrepreneur. You will emerge as one of the game changers of the 21st century.
Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion, students will be able to:
1. pose questions relating to performance or composition that are significant, original, and complex;
2. investigate these questions creatively, critically, ethically, and independently through music performance or music composition;
3. place your performance or composition in the context of the relevant music performance or music composition tradition or “school”; and
4. communicate their responses to these questions to both specialist and non-specialist audiences with either a technically outstanding professional-level public performance or portfolio of compositions, which is supported by a verbal explanation of your creative decisions.
5. complete a major piece of research in the field of Music.
