If you want to study fundamental physics and its underlying mathematical principles, this course is for you.
You’ll explore the most recent theoretical advances in atomic, condensed-state, nuclear and particle physics. In your final year, you’ll join our teams and research fundamental questions, such as:
- What is the origin of the masses of the known elementary particles?
- What is the quantum theory of gravitation?
- How did an asymmetry between matter and antimatter develop in the early universe?
- How can we test these ideas at experiments, such as the Large Hadron Collider, or the Planck Satellite?

Our graduates find employment in a diverse range of fields including geophysics, aerospace, consulting, teaching, and the scientific Civil Service. Many of our graduates go on to postgraduate research and PhD study.
