    On this substance abuse psychology course you will learn about addictive behaviours and develop the skills to interview those suffering with addictive behavioural problems. 

    You will also have access to specialised equipment and software that will aid your learning and provide practical research skills. This includes:

    • experiment building software such as Testable, SuperLab and Psychopy
    • Biopacs
    • two eye tracking units with biofeedback integration capability
    • EEG
    • portable EEG
    • validated Cognitive ability tests.

    As part of your experiential learning, you will apply theoretical knowledge gained on the course to the world of work and real-life experiences. You may undertake this element of the course in areas such as:

    • drug and alcohol treatment
    • smoking cessation services
    • homeless services
    • mental health
    • victim support.

    Through our strong connections with Recovery Intervention Service Ealing (RISE) and Ealing Drug and Alcohol Treatment Services, you can gain valuable experience as a volunteer. Some of our graduates have been offered paid work after volunteering with these organisations.

    We will use a range of teaching methods to give you the most rewarding learning experience. Your can expect to engage in:

    • lectures
    • seminars
    • workshops
    • industry guest-speaker events
    • visits to drug and alcohol treatment services 
    • small learning groups
    • experiential and practical learning.

    Once you graduate, you could work in a range of public- and private-sector professions, including:

    Once you complete this course, you can apply for Graduate Membership of the British Psychological Society (BPS)* which provides Graduate Basis for Chartered Membership of the society (GBC)*. This can open up further opportunities for advanced studies in psychology, but a period of BPS accredited research, training and/or experience is essential if you want to gain Chartered Membership of the BPS.

    * in order to be eligible for Graduate Membership/GBC, you must pass the empirical psychology project, and gain a Second Class Honours degree.
