On this music mixing and mastering course you will learn how musicians and audio producers use technology to shape sound. You will develop advanced skills, such as tonal and spatial processing, envelope shaping of dynamics in both the mixing and mastering and the listening skills you need to achieve this such as identifying instruments, musical form, scales and modes. The course will train you to apply these techniques to the multi-track recording studio, using your growing appreciation of acoustics to critically assess and shape the final product. You will also develop your abilities in controlling sound in different spaces – everything from studios to concert halls - to a required specification. You will study remixing as a creative process through practical assignments, drawing on key skills such as audio editing, sequencing and sampling and you will put theory into practice by building up your portfolio of mixed and mastered materials.
Your final year will give you the opportunity to undertake a self-managed project. On this project, you will need to negotiate all the aspects necessary for success in the industry, including:
