Art History and World Art Studies at UEA is a research-led, interdisciplinary department engaging such global challenges as climate change, coloniality, and continuing economic and political inequalities. Our postgraduate students are supported by supervisory teams composed of at least two staff members. They work at the heart of a vibrant research culture, enjoying access to the renowned Sainsbury Centre for Visual Arts and participating in the weekly World Art Research Seminar.  
 
We welcome proposals for postgraduate research projects in a variety of areas, with staff specialisms including: 
•    Art, environmentalism, and human-animal relations 
•    Contemporary art  
•    Cultural heritage and climate studies 
•    Decolonisation, restitution and postcolonial studies 
•    Medieval art, architecture, and material culture  
•    Museum studies, curatorial practice and archives 
•    Photography and artists’ film 
 
Working closely with academic supervisors gives you the support to carry out your own independent research. But how do you know which supervisory team will be right for you? We suggest you look at the School's website, check out some academics and read up on some of their publications. We recommend that you identify at least one member of staff at UEA who might be your primary supervisor and that you contact them to express your interest and discuss your research proposal. You will need to submit a research proposal of no more than 1500 words with your application. 

The minimum academic requirement for entry to a doctoral degree and MPhil degree is a UK upper second class undergraduate honours degree and a Master's degree, or equivalent.
