UK116 PGCE Secondary Mathematics University of East Anglia

  • THÔNG TIN CHUNG

Our one-year, full-time Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) Secondary Mathematics programme will equip you with the skills, experience and knowledge you need to teach mathematics to pupils aged between 11 and 16 – with the option of additional experience of A-level mathematics teaching. Upon successful completion of your PGCE, you’ll graduate with Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and 90 Master’s credits.

Mathematics can be a difficult subject for school children. There’s often a belief that you’re either good at it or bad at it, and there is a lack of awareness about the huge range of real-world applications it has.

Within our course you’ll learn and create your own new ways to make mathematics interesting, exciting and relevant. You’ll consider how games, practical activities, interactive teaching, ICT, problem-solving and investigations can support your teaching and stimulate your pupils’ mathematical thinking. You’ll be guided and encouraged to adopt strategies that lead to a rich and rewarding experience for both you and your pupils.

The course also covers wider issues of classroom practice. Behaviour management strategy is a key element within this, and you will be supported in developing your own personal style. You’ll discover that generic behaviour management systems and techniques are absolutely essential, but that how you use them will depend on you and the context in which you’ll be teaching.

Secondary schools are demanding but tremendously rewarding environments to work in. You’ll be teaching pupils as they mature from early adolescence to adulthood. Our programme will teach you how to make an effective contribution to the work of the school beyond your subject. You will succeed on this programme if you want to encourage others to find the same enjoyment and enthusiasm for mathematics that you have.

Our graduates go on to have great success in their careers. Alongside your PGCE, you’ll gain Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and 90 Master’s credits.

Career opportunities for qualified teachers are more diverse than ever before. Within a few years of joining the profession you could find yourself being promoted into a role with subject leadership and pastoral responsibilities, and progressing into senior leadership roles after experience of middle management.

We are committed to supporting you beyond your training year and work closely with schools and Newly Qualified Teacher (NQT) induction bodies to identify and provide support during your NQT year.
