Undertaking a research degree in medicine and health at the University of Sydney is an opportunity to make a real difference in the health of individuals and communities around the world.

The Master of Philosophy (MPhil) in the Faculty of Medicine and Health will allow you to pursue innovative research across a range of areas in which the faculty has expertise. Full-time MPhil students are expected to submit their thesis for examination in 1.75 years. Part-time students are expected to submit their thesis for examination in 3.5 years.

1. Find a supervisor within the faculty whose academic background aligns with your research.

2. You will need to provide the following in contacting a supervisor:

• your academic/educational background and research experience with examples such as an academic transcript
• your CV/resume
• the area of interest
• why you believe your research topics align with this supervisor.

3. In conjunction with your supervisor, develop a preliminary research proposal

4.  If you intend to study part-time, you will also need to supply:

• evidence that shows you will have sufficient time available to plan and carry out the research under the supervision of the University, and complete the course within the maximum period allowed for part-time enrolment
•  a declaration from your employer (if relevant) confirming that you will be permitted to take the time required to effectively pursue your studies.
• your research proposal should be submitted along with your CV, academic transcripts and other supporting documents.
