Why study this course?
Cancer is the single largest cause of premature death in Australia and represents nearly one-fifth of the total burden of disease in the health system. As a cancer and haematology nursing student, you will develop a comprehensive knowledge of the prevention, diagnosis and management of cancer, future treatment trends and explore the impact of these illnesses on the individual, family and community.
You will be led by leading cancer and haematology care researchers and will learn to make evidence-based decisions using research generated at our Cancer Nursing Research Unit, an innovative collaboration between the Sydney Nursing School and the Sydney Local Health District.
With the increasing trends towards both home-based care and intensive treatments such as Stem Cell Transplantation, this course provides a broad range of content across a diverse spectrum of cancer and haematology care and explores the broadening roles for nurses throughout this field.
Graduates will have the knowledge, skills and attributes required to develop initiatives in cancer and haematology nursing and to make a substantial contribution to healthcare policy and development.
