As a student in the English Literature major, you'll develop your enjoyment of reading and refine your analytical skills when you look at some of the world's major English-language novels and works. During the major, you'll study English literature from its beginnings to the present day and be introduced to a vast intellectual and cultural history. You'll also discover the infinitely different ways that men and women, from different times and places, have lived, thought, argued, felt and imagined. Many of the novels, poems, plays and non-fictional works in this major rank among the greatest products created by the human mind.

The Bachelor of Arts provides you with a well-rounded education, the ability to think and analyse, to write effectively, and the specialist knowledge gained in your major. As a result, a BA opens up a range of career opportunities including but not limited to:

• advertising, marketing, PR and media
• arts curatorship
• communications
• community/voluntary sector
• foreign affairs and trade
• government sector
• project management
• theatre direction and production.

Alternatively, you may choose to progress to honours, which further enhances your career prospects. Many employers, such as those in the public and finance sectors, require you to hold an honours degree.
