Demand is at an all-time high for trained mathematicians. Statistics, operations research and financial mathematics are the areas of mathematics most often used in industry and there has been a particular upsurge in the number of mathematicians employed in banking, finance, insurance and risk management. Graduates with a degree in any area of mathematics are respected for their excellent quantitative and problem- solving abilities and gain a wide range of rewarding positions in the public and private sectors. UQ offers a wide range of courses in mathematics and its applications. In first year, students study essential topics in calculus, linear algebra and differential equations. In later years, there is an emphasis new ideas in mathematics and include recent applications in coding and cryptology.
Research shows that graduates today will change career at least five times during their working life – a humanities degree gives you the transferable skills to adapt to this changing workforce.
Graduates of the Bachelor of Advanced Humanities (Honours) program are equipped with professional research and critical thinking skills that can be applied across a range of areas, from analysing the ethics of biotechnology to policy development.
