The Bachelor of Music (Interactive Composition) is an intensive, commercially led, collaborative music program giving you the skills required to create music and sound for a range of contemporary media contexts and platforms. The course crosses art-modes of composition. These may include writing music for all sorts of forums and modes - from film, art and theatre, through to pop-songs, advertising and video games.

This specialisation in the Bachelor of Music works closely with the Melbourne Conservatorium of Music and all creative disciplines at the Victorian College of the Arts (VCA). It focuses on commercially driven interdisciplinary modes of composition, production and sound design for:

The program provides opportunities for Interactive Composition students to be involved in developing site-specific projects overseas. Practical training, including working with other artists from diverse creative and cultural backgrounds, is designed to develop versatile soundmakers with the confidence to apply their skills to create new artistic works both individually and in groups within a range of media environments.

This specialisation works closely with all other disciplines within the Faculty of Fine Arts and Music and across the University.

You will

• Develop a variety of creative skills, knowledge and understandings across a range of practical, theoretical and conceptual aspects of interactive composition
• Broaden contemporary musical knowledge with a focus on commercially driven modes of music and sound making
• Create and craft new artistic work in group environments focusing on contemporary cross-art modes of composition including music for the moving image, theatre, dance, pop song, EDM, advertising, video games and multi-media installations

Develop advanced critical thinking and creative problem-solving skills across contemporary sound and media contexts

With broad-based learning and expert skills gained across this major, you'll be prepared for a number of careers, from composer and producer through to educator or reviewer.
