This course prepares graduates for careers as professionally qualified social workers.
The course includes studies in theory, skills development and supervised professional practice, and opportunities for group-based learning, community engagement, practice research and integration of social work theory and practice. Theoretical content builds on knowledge acquired by graduates in previous higher education, while social work skills components and professional practice introduce students to contemporary social work practice.
PROFESSIONAL RECOGNITION
The course is accredited by the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW), including 1000 hours of supervised professional practice.
An Australian undergraduate degree (or equivalent), with at least a credit (60%) average, and successful completion of two units in the study of society.
Units fulfilling the prerequisite studies of society are broadly assessed and include, for example, studies in sociology, social science, social psychology, human development, anthropology, philosophy, history, gender, law, politics, media, the arts, technology, and multicultural society.
Past academic standing is also a significant factor in selection. Students are selected on academic merit and the completion of two broad studies of society.
Applicants will be required to undertake a police check, working with children check and provide proof of relevant vaccinations prior to being permitted onto fieldwork placements.
