The Master of Advanced Finance is for recent graduates or professionals already working in the finance industry. The course provides an opportunity to study the latest theories, practices and models that will shape the future of the sector.

This course will give you advanced insight into global financial markets, funds management, corporate finance, financial modelling and risk management. The study options within this degree offer a variety of distinct pathways, depending on your career aspirations. You can either undertake a master’s coursework degree, with the chance to explore fintech, environmental finance and big data, or pursue a research pathway, which can lead to a PhD.

You’ll learn from leading academics in the field of finance as well as industry experts. Your studies will also have an ethics, environmental and corporate social responsibility focus, and the course offers practical ways to apply your knowledge through the trading simulation programs run at Monash STARLab.

The course is also a CFA program partner of the CFA Institute, which awards the international Chartered Financial Analyst designation.

Entry level 1 - 2 years

An Australian bachelor's degree with a major in finance; or an Australian bachelor degree with significant work experience in the finance industry; or an equivalent qualification. Applicants will be ranked accordingly based on their entire academic record, and a Weighted Average Mark (WAM) of 65 is preferred.

Students wishing to undertake the research pathway must maintain at least a 80 WAM and be accepted for entry by the Course Coordinator and the Higher Degrees Research Director.

Entry level 2 - 1 year full-time

An Australian undergraduate honours degree (or equivalent) in a cognate discipline with a WAM of 65, or qualification/experience or a satisfactory substitute that the faculty considers to be equivalent, which has not been used as a basis for entry.
