Our Diploma of Art & Design prepares you for a degree in fine art, Architecture, Industrial Design, Communication Design, Spatial Design and Collaborative Design at Monash University. After successfully completing a Monash College Diploma meeting the subject prerequisites and achieving the required destination degree score, you’ll have guaranteed entry* into first or second year at Monash University.

How the program works

There are five streams to choose from, depending on what degree you’d like to study at university:

• Architectural Design
• Communication Design
• Fine Arts
• Industrial Design
• Spatial Design

In part 1, you’ll develop the requisite skills in art and design principles, theory and production. In part 2, you choose your area of specialisation and study the same units as first-year University students.

Successfully finished

• Year 12 with GPA 7.0/10

Extra Requirements:

To enter directly into part 2 of the Fine Arts stream, you will need a folio of creative work. If you do not have a folio you may be offered a place in part 1.

You must include in your folio:

• traditional academic drawing – life and still-life drawing
• creative drawing – idea sketching, experiments in different drawing media.

Some suggested examples of work:

• three-dimensional concept drawing, i.e. industrial design or architectural concepts
• model making, i.e. architecture  or product models
• graphic and typographic design, i.e. posters, invitations, letterheads, branding or brochures
• sculpture or ceramics
• painting
• printmaking
• photography
• digital illustration or renderings
• animations/multimedia/website design.

Work is assessed according to:

• intended area of study (faculty degree)
• drawing ability (both academic and creative)
• uniqueness
• originality
• sophistication of ideas and concepts
• experimentation
• technical skills
• sensitivity to media.

Submit your folio

Include at least three examples of your work. Present your work as a PDF (one combined file, maximum 5MB) or a PowerPoint slide show (maximum 15 slides). Submit your folio as a DVD, USB, or email mcdocuments@monash.edu
