The Master of Philosophy (Arts) comprises 24 credit points of coursework and a thesis component in the Arts and Social Studies disciplines. Advanced standing may be awarded for the coursework component and will determine the appropriate entry point.

The Master of Philosophy demonstrates to potential employers the capacity to develop and research a specific topic in detail under supervision.
Graduates will have a capacity for rigorous and disciplined analysis, along with highly-developed attitudes of critical inquiry, creative reflection and openness to cultural difference and diversity. They will be able to adapt to rapidly changing environments in the national and international arena, and to adopt new skills and knowledge throughout their careers.
Recent graduates have found employment as policy analysts for government and the private sector; advisers to politicians; journalists; publishing; international aid; the diplomatic corps; heritage consultancy; legal services; environmental projects; community development; arts administration and academia.
The Faculty is internationally regarded for its excellence in humanities, social sciences, creative arts and law.
Honours degree with 2nd class Division 2 or higher, coursework Masters with WAM 60+ or GPA of 2.8 out of 4.
Candidates with a Coursework Masters degree or a 4-year Bachelor Honours degree in the same discipline may be granted up to 24 credit points of advanced standing for the coursework component of the Master of Philosophy.
